Best Buy does funny sales tax math...

This was for a non-subsidized prepaid phone for T-Mobile. Sales tax at 9.75% for $19.99 should have been $1.95. Granted, it's only $0.46 more, but if you round them all up like they did in Superman II, that could be something. (Yes, I am old).

The mobile manager at customer service claimed it's the sales tax for the item at cost. Not the original retail price nor the sales price. Weird.

At least it's not as bad as some folks' experiences with AT&T:

CA sales tax is based on retail value not retail cost. You'd pay taxes even if the item were $0.
